Black as the Night

Dramatic. Bold. Sophisticated. Elegant. Think of a black tuxedo, the little black dress, or a black negligee. Think of a black convertible. Sexy!

I like a touch of black in most rooms. Whether black lamps or lampshades, black picture frames, or black pillows thrown on the sofa, the addition of that color gives depth and oomph to a room. You don’t have to have much to have an impact!

I love giving old, dated furniture an update by painting them black! Paint them semi-gloss for a contemporary feel, or matte finish with light sanding on the edges for a distressed, vintage look. What a change!

Black and white tile floors, or black and white marble, are classics. Black in an area rug helps ground a room, and adds elegance and drama.

For those who love black, feel free to use heavier  doses. Black and white provides a very strong  contrast so using patterns, such as geometric or damask, makes a  beautiful statement. The patterns need to be large scale to handle the strength of the contrast.

Black was the favorite color for this homeowner, therefore it was the perfect solution for dining room walls. The white-washed furniture was lost against cream walls, but putting black on the walls gave a perfect backdrop. Now the furniture pops! White trim adds to the black contrast.  The room is now an intimate setting for dining. Oh, what drama!

Whether classic or contemporary, black is sexy!
